‘Made in England’ Doc Martens – what a find !!!! Possibly one of my best eBay purchases ever …..

In some ways I feel a little guilty. The global recession, or more specifically the recession in the United Kingdom has been pretty good to me and others who have been lucky enough to have a few pennies to spare, whilst most of the rest of the country are going under financially one way or another.

Over this past 2 years or so, lots of people in the UK have been selling unwanted or unneeded items on eBay as a way to make some extra cash for those unexpected bills or even for those expected bills that have just kept rising and rising - the power companies spring to mind here Grrrr.

Now this brings opportunities for canny eBayers to find incredible bargains that just simply wouldn’t have been around pre-recession. One of those recent bargains that I have managed to bag was a pair of ‘Made in England’ Doc Marten boots in a gorgeous pine green leather. They are simply awesome !!! and were donated by a really nice person to a well-known charity to put up for auction to raise money for the cause.

I came across this auction and determined to win it! I wanted these boots as I have been a life long lover of Doc Marten boots and already own 3 pairs *grin* in different colours and one of those pairs is the fur lined Serena boot (awesome boots by the way!) but I didn’t have a pair of brand new, original Made in England boots. Mmm they were mine for sure and I was sat the my Mac at auction close to go in during the last 10 seconds to make sure they were mine. But, I was shocked at how cheaply I got them. A few years ago this pair of boots (made in England, pre 2003 when they moved production to China and brand new, unworn, perfect) would have sold for sure for over 100 pounds at least. I bagged this awesome pair of Docs for only 32 pounds. Madness!

Here they are, freshly polished with Dr Marten Balm and already having been worn twice by me. I LOVE THEM !!! they are one of the best purchases I have ever made on eBay :)

Home-made toothpaste recipe – tried, tested and it works!

My recipe for a healthy, fluoride free toothpaste that cleans your teeth gently, removes stains and kills bacteria – also increasing your mouths saliva production which in turn protects your teeth and gums naturally.

Firstly, you need a small tub in which to store your toothpaste. Ensure you find one with a tight fitting lid.

   INGREDIENTS

  • 2/3 cup Baking Soda
  • 4 tsp Fine Sea Salt (optional – gives paste extra scrubbing power, but is okay to leave out if the taste is too salty)
  • 10-15 drops Peppermint Essential Oil or 10-15 drops Orange Sweet Essential Oil
  • Water (add to desired consistency) or use what I prefer – 20 ppm Enhanced Colloidal Silver (for anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties).
Combine all the ingredients in a tub to your desired consistency. Because I use Organic Pink Himalayan Fine Salt, my toothpaste takes on a slightly pink tinge, which is rather nice. You can of course just use regular fine sea salt.

Mmmm … the horse meat scandal in the UK has got me paranoid about buying anything ready made now …

Dinner-1.jpg

I was in the Co-Op this afternoon browsing the different foods on sale and all I could think about was the horse meat scandal that is rocking the British Food Processing Industry to near collapse. And so it should! I am happy to report that I rarely, if ever, buy processed foods but if I […]

Roasting potatoes in lamb fat, Molly the Minx and going organic

Roasting-Potatoes.jpg

Molly the minx woke me at the ungodly hour of 6am this morning again *sigh* Not that 6am is early to some people, but to me: who doesn’t get to sleep until 1am, its a shitty time of the morning to be woken by a claw across your chin. I’m guessing wee Molly had tried […]
